Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or GED
  • Experience: CMA, RMA, or CCMA preferred. Must have at least TWO years medical office experience.
  • Additional requirements: Strong organizational and communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment. Experience in a healthcare setting or in a similar administrative role is required.

Job Description:

  • A surgery scheduler is responsible for coordinating and scheduling surgical procedures for patients. This typically involves working closely with surgeons, operating room staff, and patients to ensure that surgeries are scheduled efficiently and effectively.

    Some specific job responsibilities may include:

    1. Collaborating with surgeons, operating room staff, and other medical professionals to determine the appropriate scheduling of surgeries based on factors such as surgeon availability, operating room availability, and patient needs.

    2. Obtaining all necessary medical records and documentation from patients and ensuring that they are complete and accurate.

    3. Coordinating with insurance companies and healthcare providers to obtain pre-authorization and ensure that all necessary paperwork and approvals are in place prior to surgery.

    4. Communicating with patients to provide information and instructions regarding their surgery, including pre-operative preparations, arrival times, and post-operative care.

    5. Managing the surgical schedule to ensure that surgeries are scheduled in a timely manner, taking into account priority cases and emergency procedures.

    6. Rescheduling surgeries as necessary due to conflicts or unforeseen circumstances.

    7. Maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to all HIPAA and other applicable healthcare regulations.

    8. Collaborating with other administrative and clinical staff to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the surgical department.

    9. Performing administrative duties such as maintaining patient records, answering phone calls, and coordinating with other departments as needed.

    10. Keeping up to date with current surgical procedures and guidelines to provide accurate information and guidance to patients and staff.
